Computer harms eyes?!

Question: Is it true that a computer monitor harm eyes?

I've asked some specialists about it and they say it's not true.

Any studies that prove the opposite?

CRT monitors emit radiation but no where near the amount that cell phones do. The Refresh rate on CRTs maybe harmful.

"I went to the eye doctor he told me basically, that staring at monitors should have NO ill effects, as long as you take a break evrey once in a while. He phrased it as the 20-20-20 rule. Basically every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds to prevent your eyes from getting strained."

it depends the type of computer monitor you are looking at. for example, if its a crt monitor (aka catha ray tube) it omits certain traces of radiation which can harm not only your eyes but other parts of your body as well. also the extended period of time looking at a bright monitor could also damage your eyes similar to staring into a very bright light, or the sun.

If you work with computers for long periods of time it can strain your eyes and this results in discomfort. I work with computers, and have invested in glasses that are specifically designed for computer work, since I have these I have no eye strain, they were worth every penny.....well $500.00. Your eyes will not be harmed though.
