How do you know if you have pink eye?!

Question: It all started maybe 5 hours ago. i put my contacts in and it didn't feel right, (on my right eye) but I didn't have my case so I was forced to leave them in. My eyes were watering like crazy, and it is a little red, and it hurts to blink...... i came home took the contacts out, and now my eyes are still watery, even worse than before! is this pink eye? what should i do?

it doesn't sound like you have pink eye. you probably have an eye irritation from your contacts (but I am not a doctor). if you had pink eye, your eye would itch like crazy! also, you would have a yellow discharge in both corners of your eye that would build up over night and cause matting of your eyelid. (like you couldn't open your eye when you woke up) you can contract pink eye from crowded, cramped places, so i have avoided this by washing my face and eyes several times a day with really warm water. also, wash your hands alot and use hand sanitizer. it sounds like you have an ulcer in your eye from irritation, so wash your eye several times tonight and tomorrow with saline solution or plain water

Your eyeball is pink.
Seriously, if you wake up tomorrow with a lot of sticky gunk in the corner of your eyes, or you can't open them easily, you've got it. VERY CONTAGIOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go to Dr....get some drops.

It might just be an eye infection, but your eyes might just be irritated. Try leaving your contacts out for a day or two. Make sure you clean them well or throw them out. If it doesn't clear up go to the Dr.s and get an RX.

when you have pink eye your eyes is read and puffy and very crusty lol when i had it it felt like i had a film over my eye
wash your hands very frequently and don't touch your eyes or if you do touch the affected eye wash your hand immediatley and change your pillow case if you go and see a doctor and you do have it

ur eye is pink, itchy, burns and u'll have discharge from ur eyes all the time.(like sleepers)

It could be a corneal abrasion if there was something on your contact and it scratched your eye lens. If you try to put your lens back in the same eye and it hurts like hell and it keeps tearing and it hurts and stings and feels like there is somthing in your eye.....it could be an abrasion. If your eye just feels a bit itchy and has a discharge that may get sticky overnight and crust on your eyelashes and the sclera of your eye looks pink, it could be pink eye and it's very contagious. Either way....you need to see your eye doctor.

I have had that problem before. It usually happens when I need to switch to a new pair a contacts. It stings right after I put them in (usually only one eye though). It makes the eye really watery and bloodshot and sensitive to light, even after the contacts are out. Just rest your eyes, don't put in contacts for a day or two. Then switch to a new pair.

I believe if you had pink eye, your eye would be mainly itchy! Either way don't put the same set of contacts back in because if it is infact pink eye, you'll just give it to yourself again.

Something on your contact could be scratching your eye as well. Just use a new pair once your eyes feel better.

the white part of your eye turns red

Only a doctor can accurately diagnose pink eye. There are numerous forms of pink eye which require different treatment plans. Keep you contacts out and contact your doc.

do not put the contacts back in until you see the dr. you can do more harm than good, also, he or she will verify you have pinkeye or not and give you drops for them. For tonight, just put some moisturizing drops in, to keep them from feeling scratchy your eyes could just need a break.
