Contact solution burned my eye! Help?!

Question: Today I went to buy my contact solution , but my usual one wasn't there so I bought a new one. I didn't realise this was one you had to neutralise and I just put it in my normal contact lense case and I put my contacts in it for a while then put them in my eye. It was agony! And I was crying in pain! This was 8 hours ago and my eye is still really sore and red. It even hurts to blink and they are really watery! =[ I've put my glasses on for now. Will there be any long term damage? I'm going to go to a few shops and find my usual solution tomorrow.

you seem to have a chemical burn from the solution (peroxide). if they arent better in 24 hours go to your eye doctor... he can possible give you something to help ease the discomfort like a low dose steriod drop. Throw your contacts out to. start fresh once you heal.... soft lens contacts absorb what they are put into and it will stay in the contacts... just toss them

The pH levels can vary slightly from brand to brand - Your eyes are likely very sensitive and are reacting to this formula change. It's not worth the pain to finish the bottle. Throw it out and purchase your usual brand.
No, there most likely will not be any long-term damage. If the pain continues then head in to the eye doc to have it checked out.

No there won't be any long term damage. You should see someone asap if you are light sensitive or are having any discharge. Try using some lubricant in the mean time to help speed recovery of your cornea - and don't use your contacts again until they feel 100%.

Basically, because the peroxide wasn't neurtalised, you burnt the crap out of your corneas. The peroxide systems are safe to use as long as you allow them enough time to neurtralise! I don't usually recommend them to my patients though, because of what just happened to you!
