How much does astigmatism affect my vision?!

Question: I am 18 and my contacts perscription is -1.00 on the left and -1.25 on the left. For a while I have though my vision had gotten worse because I have a hard time seeing signs on the road when I am driving and a lot of things aren't very clear in the distance. Recently I looked at the perscription for my glasses, I don't have any glasses but I do I have a perscription for some, and it said that I had -.5 astigmatism in each eye. Could this be what is causing my vision to be unclear? It seems like it was clearer before but I could be wrong. So do you think my vision has gotten worse or it is the astigmatism that is making me see blurry? Thanks

Astigmatism can cause the problem, but so can myopia. You don't say whether you are nearsighted, but those two factors together can cause problems. Your eyes, like everything else, are developing as you mature. Have your doctor check to determine if you are in need of a different prescription, because your eyes may change every couple of years.

"Astigmatism results when the cornea is not completely spherical like a basketball, but curved like a football. Because the cornea is uneven, light rays cannot focus clearly and visual images are distorted."

I have astigmatism too, and sometimes it does cause temporary blurriness in my vision. I have special contacts to fit my eyes, but every once in a while I'll rub them and they will get turned around and I can't see very well for a minute.

Sometimes when I wear my glasses things seem to be rounder too. It's no fun, but it's not a serious condition, so you just learn to live with it.

YES DEFINITELY CAN CAUSE VISION DISTURBANCE!!!!! glasses are regularly prescribed for astigmatisms, they can be anywhere from slight to severe and you need to get that prescription for your glasses filled and I bet you'd be amazed at the improvement in your vision.

You need glasses to drive by law in most places. The astigmatism adds to the myopia to create worse visual acuity. And astigmatism can increase over time, just like myopia. You can obtain toric contacts that can include the astigmatism correction.
