You're one in 10, if you're male.
(who have some degree of colour vision anomaly)
About one in fifty men are judging traffic lights by their position on the pole, but even here most colours can be seen and discriminated: it's only certain ones that are confused.

It's hereditary, and it doesn't get better or worse.

In practical terms it only affects the following of certain careers.

There are some tricks and devices that can provide assistance with red/green difficulties, but most people don't bother with them.

Just be careful at traffic lights :)

unless you want to be a pilot, its no big deal.
im suprised they didnt see it at your eye check ups! they test that.

follow up with an optometrist. how come it hasn't affected you before today???

You cannot fly planes.

I know the feeling. I didn't discover that I was color blind until i was 16.

You might have a mild case of colorblindness, the most common type is red-green.

You should blame your mother colorblindness comes from your mom.

I'm color blind, too. Well, technically, I'm "color deficient" because in those tests you get at the optometrists, I can usually make out the first couple of them, but after that, they just look like a bunch of pale pink, pale green, and gray bubbles. It's no big deal. The only time it has ever made any difference in my life is when I take color blindness tests.

Now what? Well, there's no cure, if that's what you're asking. It's very common, and varies in severity. You can have proper test, but even if you do, there's nothing that can be done about it, it won't get worse, it's wont lead to any other problems, EXCEPT that you will need to be careful at traffic lights etc.

Not serious. About 10% of males have a colour vision defect.

There are a few occupations that require normal colour vision, but for most people a colour vision defect only means they need someone else to help them pick out clothes.
