Eye weirdness prism/aura thing?!

Question: Every 4-6 months for the past 20 years, I get this bizarre eyesight thing where a portion of my vision has a prism throbbing/pulsing in it. It lasts for ~20 minutes with no after effects except for a slight "spaced out" feeling.

It is easiest to first notice if I look at a dense pattern, like a newspaper. I see it if I close my eyes, so i suspect it is optic nerve generated.

Someone told me that some people get it before they get a migraine. I never get a migraine.

I went to an optometrist and he found nothing wrong. Whatcha'll think? Perhaps an earwig climbed into my ear and is eating my brain???

There is something called "migraine aura without headache". I have it, and it's very annoying, but at least I don't get the headache most of the time. Google it (as a phrase) for more information.

My aura has jagged edges and it gets larger as it pulses until it is too large to fit in my range of vision. It seems to happen more often when my blood pressure is high, so I recommend you have your blood pressure checked, even if your are on meds or if you have never had problems with it in the past.

This is a visual migraine. Essentially it is a classic migraine attack minus the headache.

I too,, have experienced this aura thing. Not as regularly as you but I'll tell you I was pretty freaked out when it happened for thew first time. I also heard the migraine thing, but I rarely get headaches. I was concerned that maybe I was going to have a stroke or something, but hearing about how regular yours are, gives me hope that it;s something simpler.

could lay off the drugs
