About how much do glasses cost w/o medicare?!

Question: I may need glasses and I don't want them to cost too much. I want the thick black frames. Are those expensive? Also what is the best shop to go to for glasses?

I have worn glasses for 24 years. Wal-Mart and Sam's Club carry fairly reasonably priced glasses, although you have to be a member to shop at Sam's Club. You might also want to look at Sears and see if you have a Dr. Barn's Eyemart Express. Ther are also probably smaller regional stores in your area that none of us have ever heard of.

The one-hour places like Lenscrafters tend to be more expensive.

Basically, if you really want the best deal, you will probably have to get a phone book, find out who sells glasses, and look yourself. You should also be aware that most places have special deals and promotions that run from time to time.

I don't know if thick black frames are expensive. A lot of fashion designers and big companies (like Nike) have their own line of frames that tend to cost quite a bit more than generic frames.

However, you should know that cheaper is not always better. They are sometimes heavier and may not feel as comfortable. They may have bad nose pieces that rub and irritate your skin. Mine have spring-loaded side pieces, which keep them from breaking if the side piece or bar or whatever you call it is pushed farther out than it was intended to go.

Also, if the frame is still in good shape, you can just replace the lenses when your prescription changes instead of having to buy new glasses.

Hope this helps.

It depends on where you go and whether or not you have medicaid with the medicare cause if you do then you can go anywhere medicaid is accepted and they will pay for them

Wal-Mart has the best prices, you can try cost-co, BJ's and sams to see what their are if you're concerned with price.

I'd try going to walmart, costco, or sam's club first. They usually have the best prices on frames and lenses.

However -
If you need something like progressive lenses though, be prepared to pay no less than $100 for the lenses alone.
