If you wear contacts do you need glasses to?!

Question: I have worn contacts for four years. I wear them pretty much all day about 16 or 17 hours a dayevery day so I don't have glasses. My perscription isn't horrible it is about -1.5 in each eye and then i have -.5 astigmatism as well. I can tell however that my vision has gotten worse since my last appointment. I am going to the eye doctor next week so I was wondering if I should get glasses. I know a lot of people wear them when they take their contacts off but since I only do this right before I go to bed should i bother with them. I am going to college next year so I thought maybe for that reason. So do you think I need glasses as well or not? Thanks.

If you are getting a contact lens eye exam, the dr. will write an eyeglass prescription for free. Get it.
At -1.5 or more, you will need glasses for the few hours you dont wear contacts. Get a cheap one from Sears or Wal-Mart just in case! God forbid one day your eyes are dry, or you get an allergy, you might need them. You can keep them for 4-5 years as a just in case (if the power is off by a little, you would still be able to read the blackboard).
Also, make sure you get a prescription for a Silicone Hydrogel contact lens... they are much more comfortable since they have more water.

It may be useful to get both for those long studying nights that tend to go along with college. Glasses are useful to have when tiredness makes the contacts irritate your eyes.

I've had contacts for years and wear them 12-14 hrs a day. I've always had a pair of glasses as a backup and for when I read in bed before I go to sleep. You can never tell when you might flush one down the sink by accident.

Having eye glass is handy when you can't wear contacts or you remove your contacts. you must allow your eyes some breathing space so that you won't develop gpc. i believe your eye grade is not that high so it is easy to buy over the counter prescribed eye wear.

Sounds like your vision has gotten worse, thanks to the side effects of the prescription glasses (and contact lenses).

If your vision still gets worse, that means your eyes are not old enough to tolerate the side effects of the prescription glasses.

Your nearsightedness progression stops only when your eyes are old enough to tolerate the side effects of the prescription glasses.

Children CANNOT tolerate the SIDE EFFECTS of the prescription glasses, which cause their nearsightedness to get worse. (This also applies to adults whose nearsightedness still gets worse.)

International Myopia Prevention Association (IMPA) have filed a Petition at the FDA requesting enforcement action to require eye care professionals to issue written warnings to parents that distance glasses worsen myopia in children.
The failure to advise parents that myopia can be reduced or prevented constitutes unlawful misbranding.

Since your prrescription is quite low (-1.5sph/-0.5cyl) and you are young, you could reduce or cure your nearsightedness if you try.

At the very least, you should try to keep your nearsightedness under control.

my contacts get a bit irritating after a long day of wearing them, you know like dry and sticky.

I have my glasses just to fall back on

It helps to have both in case of contact emergencies or your eyes just can't take them. Even if you don't use them often I would get glasses just in case

Yes, having glasses is important. You may want to give your eyes a rest some time. Even if you only wear them at night then go for it.

It is a very good idea to have a pair of glasses just in case your eyes are very tired and you know you will fall asleep anyway.
