Why are my eyes only light sensitive some mornings, and not others?!

Question: I've noticed for years now that there are mornings where i wake up and am highly sensitive to light for 5-10 minutes. Other mornings I wake up and have no problems with light sensitivity.... it does seem more likely to occur when i get only 4 or 5 hrs of sleep, but it will still happen when i get my more average 6-8 hrs

Anybody know for sure what this could be? (My only guess is that I'm waking up in the middle of REM and that causes the sensitivity?)

I will choose the Best Answer, so thanks to everyone in advance!

that is normal. it also depends on light exposure during ur sleep.

Michael Stipe is known to create eye sensitivity. However, I believe it is more due to the lack of rest you allow yourself to get.

if you go tanning that will do it!!aside from that i would get them checked out...

Well it aould be a number of things. First of all, are your eyes a light color? People with dark eyes tend to be more tolerant of the light. And when you wake up in the morning and your eye are extra sensitive-is it a bright morning? You could be opening them on a cloudy day when they arent so sensitive, its less of a shock for them.

I guess is just depends on your strenght, if you had a rough day before then the next day you will be weak and therefore your eyes sensible.

Allergens is the air cause irritated eyes. Also tired eyes are very sensitive. Dry eyes are also sensitive. I have dry eyes and they water a lot. Doctor says dry eyes water seems like it would be the opposite but I guess not.

Well I'm no professional but i would say it's probably the time it takes for you to sleep, because in the dark when your trying to sleep your eyes will at one point open to see the atmosphere, which it will be dark.

Also it's probably the lack of sleep you get....I'm not sure but I think it could be something to do with that.

Hope that helps!

In my case, it's proportionately linked to the amount of Jack Daniels (actually George Dickel, but few have the close relationship with George that I do) that I consumed the night before.

It depends how much light is in the room your sleeping in.
Or like how deep your sleep is

A really dark room will make your eyes sensitive to light
