Glasses for distance - should I be wearing them all the time?!

Question: About six months ago, I finally made an appointment with an eye doctor regarding my vision. Distance-wise, my vision was getting really bad. So he prescribed glasses.

He said they are for driving, TV, sports, etc... but he checked off "constant use." What if I'm not driving or watching TV? Does it make your eyes better or worse to wear them all the time?

I wish prescribers wouldn't do that, without discussing it with the person who's got to wear the glasses!

Normally there would be no reason at all for an adult to wear an Rx all the time if they don't want to, no matter how blurred their vision. It has no medical consequences either way so it's a pure personal choice which should not be infringed on.

About the only thing that comes with a legal limit and a "must" is driving.

Just occasionally there would be something unusual about the way the two eyes cooperate for reading (or don't!) which would mean that glasses with a myopic distance Rx are a really good idea to use for reading and closework too. But that's relatively rare.

I wonder if that "constant use " was deliberate intent, or just reflex. There, you'd have to check back with the prescriber.

I only wear them for driving and occassionally tv watching (which is what the eye doctor recommended). It would make me feel dizzy to wear them all of the time and in the past 3 years since I got them my eyes have stayed the same...not gotten any worse.

Hey great question I also recently got glasses. I also wear them while driving and watching tv. I dont need them for reading or computer work. If I wear mine all the time I dont notice a difference close up I can see just as good with them or with out them but to see far it does make a difference and does not make me dizzy. It does not make your eyes worse, your eyes will get worse on their own or stay the same. At least thats what the doc said.

no. wearing your glasses full time gives your eyes stability

its better to wear them all the time cos they can get worse. think about lazik eye surgery if they annoy u. i had it > 2 yrs ago and im perfectly comfortable

actually, glasses make your eyesight worse. so, only use them when you need them. and if you REALLY hate them, there's this program where you CAN improve your eyesight. go on google, and type in eye excersises...or something like that. you don't need contacts, glasses, or lasik sugery to correct your eyesight. all three things are actually harmful.
