Piece of glass in eye?!

Question: i broke a candleholder this morning, and i'm pretty sure a tiny fleck zoomed into my eye. it doesn't hurt, and there isn't any visible damage (though i'm aware i might not be able to see it).
i plan on calling my eye doctor at some point today, but i wanted to ask is there a way they can get it out? do they stick you in clockwork orange type things to do it? i'm terrified here people!

I'm just wondering... how do you know that a tiny fleck zoomed in your eye? If you're sure that it did, it's quite unusual that you are not feeling any pain. And, judging from the fact that you are planning on "calling you eye doctor at some point today", I'm guessing that you are not feeling any discomfort or tearing either. Because of this, I doubt if there is any foreign body on the surface of your eye at all! (Foreign bodies on the surface of the eye are generally painful and irritating.)

However, if you are SURE that something went in, and if it was traveling at a high velocity, (I hate to say this, but...) you may want to see your doctor sooner as it may have actually penetrated the outer surface of your eye... unless, of course, it just got flushed out spontaneously by your tears...

IF there is something on the surface of the eye, they will do one of two things. If there is a single (or a few) identifiable pieces, they will apply anesthetic eyedrops then remove the foreign body with forceps. If there are multiply small pieces, then they will apply anesthetic eyedrops, then probably flush the pieces out with water. Because of the eyedrops, you will not feel any pain!

IF a foreign body has penetetrated the surface of the eye, the management becomes much more complicated, and you will just have to discuss this with your doctor.

EITHER WAY, call your doctor now! Stop worrying and go find out if there is a foreign body at all. Good luck!

Dont wait get to hospital quick

See your doc straightaway! They may be able to get it out by washing the eye out or if they can see it, picking it out with tweezers. If they really do need to do something distressing to remove it I am sure they would offer you an anaesthetic to do it! xx

if it doesn't hurt, then there really isn't anything wrong with it. use some eyedrops. sorry i never gone through that before, but my mom said when that happened to her, they just numb you and use something to pull your eye open. it won't hurt because your eye has no nerves and the numbness will make you not feel a thing.

U can either ask one of ur friends to blow in ur eye slowly or better take an appointment and the doctor will do it for u harmlessly

i work in a ER, they will put a eye drop in your eye to numb your eye, then they will flush it out with water, this will make sure the glass is out, then they will put a strip that has dye on it and touch it to your eye, this does no hurt, this is to see if your eye has any scratches, the dye will turn your eye yellow but only for a short time. Make sure not to rub your eye until you see that dr, rubbing it if you had glass in there would scratch your eye bad.
dont be scared its just like going to the eye dr, it does not hurt, the eye drop stings a little but not bad
hope this helpes

the Dr will use an eye drop to deaden the eye and examine it and remove it
no big deal

that happened to me and i got a corneal abrasion which is a damaged cornea(the white part) see an eye doctor immediately there may be no visable damage but each time you blink it scratches your eye more and after a few days without doing anything you will see and feel damage

Owwwww i have a piece of glass in my eye sod the doctor lets go on yahoo answers. I mean cmon! get a life love u could be going blind and ud rather go on here.

If you think you can see this then u dont have glass in ur eye. youd know about it if u did!!

your doctor may just put novacaine in your eye and then look and see what is in there. if something then you would have to have it removed. The eye might just be scratched. The eye and inside mouth are the quickest healing places on the human body. do not try to remove anything in the eye by yourself except maybe an eyelash or eye boogers.

Definitely see an eye doctor right away before abrasion takes over...

Do NOT rub your eye or attempt to remove the glass yourself...

The doctor will use a yellow liquid eye drop for examination and the glass will show up as having ripples around it. Then he can remove the glass with a q-tip...

He will probably prescribe Tobradex for a med. Request the prescription to be Tobradex "ointment" and not the drops as the ointment is more comfortable and longer lasting...

It's as simple as that and there is no pain...

Don't hesitate...

You got 2-3 really good answers. Like the person from the ER said, they flush your eye with water or another eye solution, then put a specially made dye (safe for your eye) to see if there are any more flecks of glass left.

You do NOT call your doctor "at some point". You call NOW or turn up at your docor's office FIRST THING in the morning.

You may not feel the glass, even if it's there. It's your vision and you could lose it if there's glass and you delay getting it cared for.
