Why do my eyes hurt when I'm not wearing sunglasses?!

Question: when i didn't wear sunglasses before, i can be out in the sun all day long, felt no pain in my eyes. Now that I constantly wear one, it hurts when i forgot to put it on. Is it a matter of adaptation or it really is important to wear one always?

You need protection from sun glare as well as brightness and UV rays whenever you are outdoors.

Polarized lenses are the best - prescription or non-prescription (plano) -- it's the difference between squinting or not. Light rays travel in 2 ways - horizontal and vertical and it's the vertical ones that make your eyes hurt. If you are driving or fishing and the sun is bothering you, it's those pesky vert rays that are making it hard for you to see.A polarized lens only allows horizontal rays through (the useful ones) and protects your vision better than a plain tinted lens.

UV rays cause wrinkles & cataracts - bad.

Transitions/photochromic lenses are great but not meant to replace a polarized lens because they do not change color inside your car (requires UV rays for them to change) so I would recommend a polarized sunglass in addition to the Transitions/photochromic lenses for full sun glare protection.

Good luck & enjoy good eye health!

Yes, your eyes have adapted to the sunglasses. If you stop wearing them for a long period of time, you will see that you don't miss them at all. Its quite strange. Also, if you have light blues eyes like mine, the sun hurts them really bad. That may play a part in it too.
