I poked myself in the eye....?!

Question: and when it happened, there was a small concentrated red welt. I went to the ER and he said I was fine and the red spot should disappear in about a week. But now, it's kinda grown bigger and diffused out, like the blood is spreading out.

Should I be worried, or is that how it happens?

I'm a registered nurse for five retinal eye surgeons and I noticed your question about the trauma to your eye. The red spot of blood you had from poking yourself occured when a small blood vessel under the conjunctiva broke and bled. This usually starts out as a minimal area of concentration. The blood moving out and spreading as it has is not more blood, it's the same spot that was concentrated only it's your eye repairing and the blood being reabsorbed. It's not internal bleeding. It's called a subconjunctival hemorrhage and sounds alot worse than it is and is common with trauma. Use some form of lubricating drop (systane, soothe, tears) up to several times a day and the blood should be reabsorbed quicker and the redness will go away. Only if you have had accompanied vision loss would I get the eye checked again otherwise you have nothing to worry about. Think of it as something akin to trauma to the tissues of your skin- for instance if you have a bruise on your leg and several days later the bruise looks bigger and wider. Same concept. You will be fine. Good luck!

Ask your doctor again but if you want my opinion i think your Eye is bleeding.

I think that I would go to my primary doctor instead of an ER doctor to get a second opinion....

go to ur eye doctor..
if u dnt have one..
go get one..

Ask the doc.

yea...go back to the docter.

internal bleeding.go to the doctor asap..you might go blind

Go to the eye doctor asap!

Go 2 a diffrent eye doctor and I think you eye might be bleeding and that eye might go blind or you might have broke one of those vains in your eye or whatever it's called
