Eye injury?!

Question: I had an accident on Friday (11/1/08) and got some small glass particles in my right eye. I immediately flushed the eye, but had to go to A & E to have the last 3 removed by a doctor. She gave me some Voltarol eye drops (for 2 days use) and some anti-biotic ointment (7 day use - still using as directed) as my eyeball was covered in scratches from the glass. She said that the blurred vision I had would go in a couple of days. It has improved a bit, but I still have blurry vision. If I cover my good left eye, I can see what I'm looking at but it's quite blurred and "fuzzy" around the edges - nothing's sharp. I have an appt at the Eye clinic at my hospital this Friday, my question is will this damage be permanent? Or will the sight be restored to how it was? I've always had really good eyesight.

Your cornea probably hasn't healed properly yet. If the glass was removed from your line of sight, they may be some residual scarring that could reduced your vision.

So without knowing where the particles were, it is hard to know whether you will have some permanent loss. If the particles were small, I think you will be fine. If you were told the blurred vision would pass, then I also assume they weren't in your line of sight. It is probably just the healing process which is blurring your vision because your tear layer will be unstable. You probably have some fluid in your cornea which won't be helping either.

Let me get this straight: You've been to and are going to an eye doctor, and you're asking strangers on a website who can't examine your eye . . . why???

As long as the shards of glass did not penetrate decements layer (a layer of the cornea) than the chances are that you will not suffer any permanent corneal opacity's. The corneal epithelium recovers well. Unless there is heavy scaring I would say that you will make a complete recovery. Optician
