Can you really go blind over night ?!

Question: I recently saw a programme where a guy went blind over night. He had no previous eye problems, his eyes just stopped working. This is my greatest fear, can it really happen and what causes it?

Sure it can happen, usually due to a stroke that impacts the optic nerves. I have a friend that suddenly had very diminished eyesight, due to a stroke. He isn't blind, but went from being athletic and playing golf quite well to having to be driven around and told where to walk and where the bathroom is. But it is quite rare-- he was warned he had high blood pressure and didn't do anything about it. Had he taken medication, he probably would not have the problem.

Thats what they told me-but after years of doing it, I'm still ok.

this can happen.. but is really rare.. and unfortunately there is no explanation but it as a fear isnt realistic .. if you fear it.. you should also fear things like suddenly stopping breathing.. or your heart stopping for no reason.. your brain controls them and it works normally without problems.. but sometimes.. things happen.. there isnt a reason.. you cant go around fearing things that you dont know..

I don't know, but I did know a woman once who gauged her eyes out with teaspoons.

That happened at night.

It's theoretically possible, but extremely unlikely. I wouldn't worry.

A number of things can cause it, and yes, it is very possible.

medically speeding its called "giant cell arteritis"
which mean his imunity defense system is attaking his own body cell, which may results of blindness & headache
or he might have a previous impact in his head which may cause him internally bleeding without knowing & thy could also cause blind

gosh, watching "greys anatomy" has finally paid of, hehe ;-)
but u don't have to worry about tht, bc they always find cure 4 it in the tv looool ; D

It is very rare. I do rememmer the former MP Jack Ashley went deaf overnight.

what a horrible thought that's scary but yes i suppose it can lets think of nice things instead
