It means you are nearsighted (R -3.50 L -3.75) with some astigmatism (-0.75). Astigmatism means your cornea is not spherical but oval in shape and axis 70 means the axis of the "oval" in your right cornea is at about one o'clock position while axis 110 is at about eleven o'clock position.as viewed by the person facing you.

One diopter is about 20/70 (approximately).

Without taking the cylindrical component (CYL) "Astigmatism" into account, -3.50 is about 20/250 and -3.75 is about 20/260.
(3.50 X 70 = 245 & 3.75 X 70 = 262.5)

Taking everything into account, your right eye is about 20/270 while your left eye is about 20/290.

Right eye [3.50 + (0.75 / 2)] X 70 = 271.25
Left eye [3.75 + (0.75 / 2)] X 70 = 288.75

Hope this helps.

Let's create a 20/20 world.

ask a goog eye doctor or go to a place that cells glases and ask

Maybe ask the eye doctor who gave it to you? Or maybe a person who sells the glasses? They would know! Goodluck =]

Look at the SPH part, that's the power. I would guess you're somewhere around 20/60. Your 20/20 days are long gone.

my brother is 20/60 and he is -1.25 in both eyes

It means you are nearsighted with a moderate amount of astigmatism. Most likely without glasses you have approximately 20/200 or 20/100 vision if you squint. But since I didn't do the test on you, you should definitely ask your optometrist who gave you the prescription. To clarify, nearsighted means that without eye glasses you can see things close to you around 2 feet and not far like when you drive. You probably see 20/20 or close to it with the glasses on. Best to call your eye doctor and verify.

It means that you are Near Sighted. With a small Astigmatism which has to do with the curvature of your eye.

as far as seeing 20/20 , I couldn't tell that just by reading that script. it would depend on your eyes, but the optometrist that did your exam would have that on the exam sheet. But that is the whole point in getting your script, to get you to see as close to 20/20 as possible. A Minus 3.50 script is getting up there, but i've seen scripts where the SPH was -17.00 ....

I am about 20/70 and -1.50, so but I think you would be like 20/200 or worse.

Could you see the big E on the eyechart without glasses or contacts? If you could not read anything on the eyechart till you got to the blurry E than you are 20/400.
