Why are my contact lens-wearing eyes red?!

Question: Over the past couple weeks my eyes have been turning red and bloodshot and I am blinking very often. I have switched to new contact lenses and the problem persists.

What possible infection could I have and any OTC remedies could I buy?

You could have a number of issues: Extended wear of contact lenses can cause inflammation, dryness, and / or infections or infiltrates. It is hard to remedy with OTC if you have an infection. You should consult with your eye care professional like an optometrist right away. Above all, discontinue your contact lens wear immediately.

How are they when you don't wear them? Mine get red when I wear them b/c my lenses don't allow as much oxygen as I need, so the vessels draw closer to the eyes' surface to get more oxygen (thus the redness). See your doctor and he/she will say if it's an infection or your contacts.

MAyb u r putting ur contacts in the oposite way. look at it from the side, if it curves out it is backwards. or mayb ur eyes rnt made 4 contacts, ur eyes might be to sensitive. 4 me, the solution i was using was burning my eyes, try switching solutions. try cleaning ur lenses with saline solution. it works. Best thing is to ask ur doctor!

Maybe you are allergic to the solution.
Call the eye doc and ask him. There is probaby some that is for more sensitive eyes.
I used the kind from Allergan most of the time.

yo ....I have been a contact lens wearer for over 40 years ..go see your eye doctor.,.don't play... I have never ever ever in all these years had any eye infections of course I have always worn hard lenses... but anytime i have had continuing discomfort I have been to the opthomologist as soon as they can get me in....if its gonna be along time til they have an opening i tell them straight up i think its something serious and I need to be seen. My kids have all tried soft lenses my oldest does ok my daughter cannot wear them.. actually those soft lenses a can be serious bacteria breeding grownd. and lenscrafters and places like that are for sh i t. you know you ain't gonna get no eye transplant if you go blind... thats it.... and there is nothing over the counter.... if you have an infection you need an antibotic or an antibacterial or you could lose your eyesight.... get to the eye doctor..please

they breatheable contact lenses now that are made out of silicone. you might want to ask your eye doctor for this.
