I have a question about contact lens fittings...?!

Question: If you can answer one, that's great. If you can answer all, that's even better. Thanks! :)

1. Does the contact lens fitting fee include the first pair of contacts?

2. How many times can you try out different contacts, on average? (ex. if the first pair doesn't fit comfortably can I keep asking for different brands until I find a brand that's good?)

3. I need toric contact lenses. What brand would you recommend? Please recommend brands for both soft contacts and hard contacts.

4. Does the fitting fee include check-ups and eye exams related to the contacts during the trial session?

5. About how long are you supposed to try out contacts?

6. What should the optometrist give you, in addition to the trial pair of lenses?

7. Is it common, during the trial period, to wear one brand of contact in one eye and another in the other eye?

8. Are there more expensive brands of toric lenses or do all cost about the same?

9. What is different for each brand of lenses?

You will need to ask questions # 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 of the fitter. Office policies will differ. Generally the fitting includes the first order for contacts (3-6 month supply), trial solution and follow up for 3-6 months.

The best brand of lens is the one that fits you best. There is no one brand that is best for everyone. Part of the fitting process is to discover which brand works best for you. It may be that you need one brand in one eye and a different brand in the other. Toric fitting can take longer and may involve trying several different lenses. Fitting service usually covers this.

Torics vary in price. Differences between brands include range of powers, range of fitting, type of material, thickness, water content, oxygen transmission, method of stablizing the toric portion, deposit resistance.

Yes the exam will include a trial pair of contacts to see how you do wearing them.

You can try as many as you like until you and your doctor feel that you've found the ones that work best for you.

Your doctor will be able to recommend the brand of toric lenses that works best for you. If price is a concern, tell him/her that you would like contacts that are around $x.xx per box or whatever.

The fitting exam usually includes a check up after two weeks of wearing the trial contacts.

Your doctor should probably give you some samples of contact solution. He should also give you your prescription, in case you want to order your contacts from elsewhere, such as 1800contacts.com or another store.

If your doctor feels you need a different lens for each eye, he should do that for you.

Prices on toric lenses do vary by brand.
