Attention people with blue or green eyes: Are your eyes sensitive to light?!

Question: Do you love rainy days because your eyes can relax? I have green eyes and they've always been very sensitive to sunlight, even through clouds, and I'm wondering if others with light eyes have this problem. If so what do you do about it besides normal sunglasses? It seems to me that brown eyed people don't have nearly the sensitivity to light that I do.

My eyes are blue/grey and yes, I love overcast days only because I don't have to squint as much! The only thing that I have found is wearing sun glasses when ever I am out. I believe we are more susceptible to cataracts because of this so it is important to wear your glasses even on days that don't appear to be really bright. I also have UV protection on my prescription glasses to help with computer work. I wonder what coloured contacts do for light sensitivity?

Yes, that is true. Try a pair of Polarized Sunglasses- that helps a whole lot!

i have Hazel eyes but yes in on sunny days i do usually need sunglasses if i want my eyes to relax... otherwise I'm all ways squinting to try and keep out the light

Have blue/green eyes, and most days they are fine. Some days, especially in the morning, the light/glare just kills me, even with sun glasses on. Don't know what we can do about it. Eyes just water and hurt for an hour or so or until I'm inside. Guess we just have to put up with it.

You're right, people with darker eyes don't have the same amount of sensitivity to light. The pigments in their eyes also offer protection against light. That's why people whose ancestors are native to parts of the world closer to the equator tend to have darker eyes than those who lived farther away. It's the same thing with skin color. Darker skin offers more protection from strong sunlight than light skin does.

Good quality sunglasses. I was told by my eye doctor that the kindest thing I could do for my pale blue eyes is never leave the house without good sunglasses. Stops the wrinkles forming too!

I've got lovely green eyes, not to brag =D I love them but yes, they are very sensitive to light. I hate it when you've just woken up an you turn the light on and you're in agony though =(
