Dry eye can definitely cause these symptoms BUT the fact that you noticed it suddenly and actually felt something fly into the eye makes me wonder. It is possible that you have a foreign body of some type lodged underneath the upper lid. Did the doctors evert (flip your upper lid inside out) and look for something up under the lid? If so, and they found nothing, did they DOUBLE evert the lid? This allows the doctor to look WAY up under the lid. Sometimes I have had patients complain of foreign body symptoms and I simply couldn't find anything. In these cases I numb the eye and swab under the eye lid as far up as I can go. I have actually removed debri in this manner that I just couldn't see. Might look into this .
