if that happened to you - don't be afraid.
i'll tell you this - if you think you don't want to wear glasses so you don't want anybody to find out that - that's bad! it would only bring you to a later stage when your vision can not be corrected anymore - instead of having it corrected at an earlier stage. don't let some years without glasses ruin your vision later - and like somebody said before, you might not need glasses anyway. don't be afraid of having an eye exam done - the more complete, the better. TRUST ME ! i wore glasses for many years when i was little, i didn't have to wear them anymore after a surgical intervention - and i was happy to pass the vision screening each time i had to have it - even if i saw it wasn't done too seriously... as a result of 'cheating' or lying to myself for many years - now i have to wear glasses again. all my life. my vision is slightly corrected - but it cannot be improved. maybe the best case - stay at the same stage for a longer period of time if i wear my glasses and take care of my eyes more seriously. i think that if i had a more serios eye exam earlier - i wouldn't have the problems that i have now. it's not all about how you look if you wear glasses - or how inconvenient is to have contacts - it's about SEEING ! a VERY IMPORTANT thing in our life. (don't get to that point where you ask somebody what's written on the menu so you can order your meal...and having also your glasses on your nose. It's not exactly my case - but it can happen if you don't take care of yourself).

I would assume they would inform your parents so they can take you to an eye doctor to get your vision corrected.

The school nurse lets your parents know that they need to take you to an eye doctor for a full evaluation and can also assist them in following through (some people don't have insurance, don't speak English, etc.). Just because you failed the screening doesn't necessarily mean you need glasses. The purpose of a screening is to identify a possible need and that further evaluation is needed.

I remember this happening to me when I started 5th grade. We had an in-class vision screening. When it was my turn, I was so shocked to discover that I could no longer read the bottom letters on the eye chart. The year before, I was able to read them perfectly. Some of the students told me that I needed glasses. It turned out they were right.
