Should I go to DR?!

Question: I've had better than perfect vision all my life (20/10). I'm 22 now....I started working a desk job about 2 yrs ago and stare at a computer screen 8-9 hrs a day, 5 days a week, plus some computer time at home too (although not nearly as much...).

I've noticed my eyes are not what they used to be, I can't see as far as I used to, and things take longer to focus than they used to. I still see fine, nothing is "bad", just not what it used to be.

Should I see an eye DR and possibly get glasses? I'm afraid that if I don't, staring at a computer all day will make it worse. But I'm also afraid because I've heard that wearing contacts/glasses only makes your eyes worse (that's why people get new perscriptions every 2 years or so).

What's your suggestion?

The computer is very demanding visually causing your eyes to work very hard. Glasses can help relax your eyes so they dont have to work as hard while on the computer. Wearing gls/contacts doesnt make your eyes worse although i can see how that can be mistaken. After your eyes adjust to the correction when they are taken off you have to re-adjust to seeing without the correction. If anything you may need gls just for computer and if that doesnt get corrected it could eventually affect your distance and/or near.

Yes you should. You can get glasses just for protection and to make it easier on your eyes, I have a pair of those and they really help =]

and talk to your Doc about any of your worries

Good luck

yes you could need glasses
take breaks from the computer

Your eyes will go down hill for your entire life. They rarely stay the same after a lifetime of use.

Once you cannot see well wearing glasses is just a necessity.
We would rather not wear glasses but there is no choice.
