What more can I do for chronic dry eye?!

Question: Hi-I've been having problems with dry eye. I went to an eyedoctor where I got tear duct plugs put in and I'm on prescription Restasis. It's helped a lot, but not 100%. I have a follow up soon, and wonder if there is anything else I could be doing.
I drink plenty of water, and have a humidifier.
Thanks for any advice!!

Here's the regimen we use in our office:

1) twice daily, soak your eyes with a warm/ hot washcloth. Rinse the washcloth and scrub the eyelashes. You want to stimulate the oil glands that line the eyes, the oil is what holds water on the eye. Don't need soap or anything else, just the hot cloth.

2) Use artificial tears as often as you can remember, at least 4 times a day, every hour if you can remember.

3) Continue your Restasis. It can take 6 months for the full effect. Keep it in your refridgerator so they will feel better going in.

4) Decongestants, pain pills, muscle relaxers, diuretics and caffeine all dry the eyes out. Limit or eliminate their use.

good luck!

the room in which you spend most of your time in ..must be full of allergins..im going through the same thing in my dorm room...I try to stay out of my room ..only when i have to be there...its hard when you have a messy room mate that never cleans...but if you can clean..give your house or work place a thorough cleaning

If you feel you need something before the visit call the Dr. and ask if saline drops are acceptable.

Your doc is the best person to ask when you go back to see him. He may suggest artificial tears such as hypromellose or something similar, but I wouldnt like to say whether or not its ok to use with the restasis drops, so you really need to check with him first.

Can you ring and ask?

Every little thing helps. Try these sunglasses that are particularly good for dry eye sufferers:
