All of a sudden my rgp contact is riding too high- what gives?!

Question: I got a new pair of rgp contacts about three weeks ago- for the past two and half weeks they have been great and I've had no problems, then two days ago I put them in and my eye felt irritated along my lower eyelid and the contact was riding too high- what happened, and what can I do to fix it? Thanks!

I support yagman's answer. Either the lens or the eyelid has become rougher and so the upper lid can more easily "grasb" the lens. This tends to be more especially obvious with short-sighted lenses.

A deposit on the lens or a reaction on the eye lid could do this, and the one tends to promote the other.

Very thorough cleaning of the lens may be enough but, if it recurs, professional inspection of the inside surface of your lids may be required.

It is possible that the lens has become deposited in some way. Deposits on the anterior surface of a gas permeable lens will prevent the upper lid from sliding smoothly over the lens. The lens then begins to adhere to the lid on the blink and it will decenter upwards. So you need to go in and have the lens looked at. If it is deposited it can be easily polished and the lens should fit well again.
