Question about no-rub contact solution..?!

Question: Would actually rubbing them do the same as spraying all that solution down the drain? I go through WAY too much just spraying it over them.

"no-rub" is a little misleading in a contact solution title.
It's often better if you do rub, even with a "no-rub" solution

(you may need to check with your practitioner on your particular solution/lens combination)

Some older contact solutions only achieved their required "kill-rate" on bactera by assuming that the lenses would be rubbed in a cleaning stage, which removes a good proportion of the bacteria along with other deposits.

Naturally a proportion of people neglected to rub, and they weren't getting the disinfection of their lenses that they really needed..

"No-rub" solutions have adequate "kill-power" against bacteria even if there is no rubbing stage, so they are inherently safer especially for people who don't always clean their lenses.

But there are other contaminants as well as bacteria, and rubbing the lenses to aid the removal of lipid and protein can be a real benefit even with "no-rub" solutions!

But either way, you don't need to spray the lens with large volumes, like washing a car with a hose.

Rubbing is actually better than just rinsing. Put a little solution on the lens, rub both sides to the count of ten, rinse with a little more solution then store in the case. Always throw away the solution in the case from the day before and put fresh solution in the case.
