My Eye Sight Is Really Bad : (?!

Question: I didn't know it was bad until today when I was in school. I had to sit right at the front with my glasses which make me look a bit weird. My vision is so bad and I'm only 14. What can I do to make my vision better? Please help me...I feel like crying :(

First of all, let me tell you that there is no reason to cry: I am legally blind and have been so all my life, but I had a full life, raised children, and went to work for over 30 years. I am retired now--with vision that low that I cannot drive. So do not despair.
First of all, you do want to do exactly as the eye expert tells you. Wear your glasses even though you feel they make you look weird-and get at least one full eye exam every year---

Since you are only 14 you can talk to your mother and your eye doctor--sometimes insurance will pay for contact lenses if they improve actual vision by 30 percent. Only your doctor will know if contact lenses help you or not. With contact lenses you have to be extremely careful not to get an infection into your eyes.

go to the eye doctor and get your eyes re-examined. you may need a stronger prescription. your eyes will only get worse if it goes untreated. besides, it's not like you're the only person in the world who wears glasses. many people do!

I feel for you, I've been there. If you don't want to wear glasses, there are some contacts out there that will fit a strong prescription. I've worn glasses since I was 5, and I'm almost 26. I have 20/400 vision (very bad astigmatism, I get double vision and I see halos around everything without my glasses/contacts!) and I am extremely nearsighted.. yet they were able to fit me for contacts. Please go back to your eye doctor and tell him/her what is wrong, and good luck.

Try one of the new soft contact lenses now on the market. They are inexpensive; your eye doctor will probably give you a pair of disposables for free. If you can't see the board from the front of the class, you definitely need an eye exam. Don't worry--I am legally blind without vision correction, but have been wearing soft contact lenses since I was 16 (I'm 50 now).
In glasses, I need TRIFOCALS, my eyes are so bad. But with the contact lenses, I just need a cheap pair of reading glasses from the the drugstore to give me the help I need. Good Luck!
