They are dry. Use an artificial tear to lubricate them. You aren't hurting your eyes, just tiring them out. When you focus on something like reading, watching tv, using the computer, your eyes don't blink as frequently, making them irritated. That's what causes the redness.

You shouldn't stare at the screen continuously for hours. You should blink, look away and open and shut your eyelids after every half hour. Rub your palms and put them to your eyes gently every hour, while you're working on the computer.

Splash water on your eyes every morning after you wake up and every couple of hours, while working on the computer.

Continuously looking at the screen damages the eyes and causes burning and reddening. Learn to perceive strain and stinging sensations in the eyes while looking at the screen and do the exercises I mentioned above.

Try to avoid external medicines as far as possible, if the above means work.
Good Luck!!

Because your eyes are tired. It will only strain them. My dad always tell me to take breaks every 10 minutes. Half an Hour if you wish. You need to rest you eyes. If you continue to stare at the computer it will make your eye degree go up. -For computer only-

as you stare towards the screen,no matter how far you are , you will be exposed to the light rays produced by the screen which is not an ordinary light ,but a generated one from the cathode rays so your eyes get strained to it and they become red and furthur results into blindness. so you should atleast take a 20min break after every half an hour work on your computer system
