LASIK okay for astigmatism?!
Question: I had a LASIK evaluation done and the optometrist said it is recommended over corrective lenses for astigamistic eyes like mine.
But recently, a friend of mine said that his For Eyes optometrist told him that it is NOT recommended for astigmatism. Who's right?
I can see how both optometrists' suggestions might be biased (it's good for their respective businesses).
But which one is REALLY recommended? To have LASIK done or not?

I had lasik done a couple of years ago, and I had an astigmatism. It worked well for me. I am very happy with the results, and have no complications.
If you research lasik and astigmatism, you will see that many surgeons say it can be done. Did you have a consultation with a lasik specialist, or just an eye doctor who does not do the surgery? Most lasik specialists have a free consultation to see if you are a good candidate.
My advice would be to talk to everyone....talk to your family, friends and co-workers. Then ask your family, friends and co-workers to talk to their family, friends and co-workers....you get the idea. I found my surgeon by word of mouth. I asked everyone I know if they had Lasiks (or knew anyone who had Lasiks), and what doctor they went to. Almost everyone I talked to in my area went to the surgeon I ended up going to, and everyone was perfectly satisfied. I went into the procedure very confident!
I also have a slight astigmatism and have been considering Lasik surgery. My optometrist said that the surgery would help the astigmatism. However, I can see how he too can be biased because they are with the same company, and would probably benefit somehow.
It's good to think that both may be biased, but i think that astigmatism is correctable with laser surgery now because of new advances in technology. I'm currently waiting until my eyes settle down so i can get corrective surgery (right now their at -7.50, myopia with astigmatism).
There is a custom lasik that is suitable for people with astima. Does check with other eye doc.
I had LASIK with a slight astigmitism and I went from 20/40 to 20/10. I really see much better after having LASIK than when I wore glasses.
I agree with you about both optometrists being biased. Go see an Opthalmologist. Thats what I did.
LASIK should be OK for astigmatism. I'm sure the optometrist is right here.
If you want to be sure, go to a licensed LASIK doctor and get the right advice.
