When i stare to some objects for a long time...?!

Question: ...i always see the shadow of that object in bright colors in front of my eye that disappear slowly while i drag my eyes and look away from that object. this happens easier when i stare glowing objects like lamps and lightbulbs.
i hope the description is good enough.
do you also experience this? why is this happen? could you give me logical answers? i'm really curious about this vision XD

You are seeing an afterimage, the same thing as the coloured circles you see after your picture is taken.

When you stare at one thing without moving the eyes around, the light receptors in the eye receiving the light from that object get bleached out. Photoreceptors work by converting a chemical from one form to another form in response to light. The chemical then regenenates itself. By staring at one thing continously the chemical doesn't get a chance to regenerate. The chemicals are colour dependent, so will get selectively depleted depending on the colour of the object. When you then stare at a different object, the depleted chemicals will not be be stimulated by some colours of the new object and you will "see" the old object in weird colours superimposed on the new objects.

See the link below for an optical illusion based on afterimages

is it like double vision? when you look at something do you see like a line dragging behind it?

i know what you're talking about. it happens to me to. i believe (this is just a logical answer) that it's probably you're eys contracting and then expanding slowly. it makes sense to me.

It's normal.It's afterimage.
