Whats the cheapest way to get toric prescription contact lenses & exam?!

Question: anyone know of the cheapest optometrist? should i go to walmart for the test and then order the contacts thru the web. can i buy them on the web without an exam if i know my eye glass prescription?

please help. contacts are very expensive to me when i see them advertised particularly toric lenses. and i was told i need a exam every 6 months to get them which i find outrageous since my eye strength hasnt changed since i was 7 years old.

im also struggling with my eyeglasses because my eyes are very wideset and even with my men's frame i find i dont have a good field of vision. thank you!

The cheapest way will still be a bit expensive, especially if you do not have current contact lens measurements or do not currently wear the contacts.

Your best bet for the cheapest fitting is somewhere like WalMart, but you might have to expect a couple visits.

Toric lenses require a little more effort in measuring before final prescription is written, hence the follow up visits for the dr to verify the fit after you've worn them around a while.

Once you have a prescription (expires in one year), then yeah, on-line ordering is probably cheapest.

You can't order them with your glasses prescription: contacts fit right on the eye, while eyeglass lenses sit about 14 mm away from the eye -- the dr adjusts the prescription numbers accordingly -- since the contacts are right on the eye, the prescription strength tends to be weaker than glasses to compensate. You also need to order the correct diameter (size around of the contact) and base curve (the curve of the contact that best fits the curve of your eye).
