How can you tell what your eyesight is?!

Question: i cant schedule an appointment with my eyedoctor right now, and beside his office is faaaaaaaaaaar away from my house. i just wanted to know if there was a way to see what your eyesight was, because of something important i have to do. like is there a test you can do by yourself, that doesnt require the optometrist's machine? thanks!

If you're nearsighted, you can get a rough idea of your prescription by determining the farthest distance that you can see clearly. The distance expressed in meters will be the reciprocal of your prescription in diopters. Hold a ruler up to the bridge of your nose, under subdued light, and slide something like a matchbox or business card along the ruler away from you until the details of the printing just begin to blur. If that happened at 20 centimeters, that would be 0.2 meters. 1/0.20 = 5, so your prescription would be about -5.

To guesstimate a hyperopic prescription, try on different powers of drugstore reading glasses. See what the strongest ones are that do not blur your distance vision, and that will be close to your prescription.

Cover one eye, look out of the other,
Try both sides, to see which is stronger....( bit of a rhyme...)

Try using an eye chart.
