Is it normal for you eyes to water when you first start wearing glasses?!

Question: I picked up my reading glasses yesterday, this is the first time I have worn glasses.

I have found that a short while after putting them on my eyes will start to water and I end up having to take them off. I also find they are not all that clear although it is possible to read with them.

I have 1 eye which is long sighted and the other which has perfect vision. I find if I close one eye (I have tried both like this) when looking through the glasses they seem fine but its when both are open that its not so clear and my eyes begin to water.

Could it just be that my eyes have to get used to using glasses? If so are there any techniques which would help or is it just a case of keep wearing them and hope things improve.

I'm not sure where I stand if it is a wrong prescription as I purchased my glasses from a different opticians to where I had my eye test.

Well there is always an adjustment period where things will feel weird and you eyes may not focus well etc. I get it every time my RX changes. However it should go away within I'd say 1 or 2 days, sometime as little as a couple of hours. But keep them on and see after a few days if they still feel wrong, they may have messed up either with your RX on the glasses themselves or you diagnosis. It does happen.

I advise you to wear the glasses ,stand up and look to a straight line on the floor , if it appears wavy so there's something wrong in glasses particularly axes.

In the UK there is an optical complaints conciliation service.
I understand that a very high percentage of complaints they deal with are about specs with "split" supply.
I would suggest that you should first go to the optician who tested you, and explain the situation, ask them to check the specs are exactly as they prescribed. If they are not, the fault is with the supplier.
If they are, ask the prescriber for further advice.
It often takes a while to get used to glasses, especially the first time, and especially when the two eyes are very different.
