Are there any optometrists here? I have some questions...?!

Question: I've thinking about becoming optometrist but I want to know more.
Here are some questions (you don't have to answer all of them)
1) How old were you when you graduated from college/university?
2) Is this a competitive field?
3) Are you self-employed? If not, where do you work?
4) What is your salary?
5) Do you have time for your personal life (family, friends)?
6) Are you proud of what you are doing?
7) Do you consider yourself successful?
8) Were you a good student in high school? (your GPA would help me a lot)
9) Is it true that admission to optometry school is competitive?
Thank you!

1) 22yrs old after undergrad, 26 after optometry school
2) yes
3) yes
4) difficult to answer
5) yes, not enough
6) most of the time
7) i suppose
8) yes, 3.7 or something
9) yes, but not enough. Too many dolts get through

10) you didn't ask, but I wouldn't recommend optometry. Be a dentist. Those guys have it made. Optometry has done a terrible job of educating the public on our abilities. This is why so many people flock to their family docs for red eyes and pink eyes and foreign bodies. They have no clue that their eye doctor is FAR more qualified to do that stuff AND they'll take your health insurance. Stuff like that drives me crazy. When you get a toothache, where do you go? The dentist, of course. But when people have eye trouble they go to their family doc or ER.

Anyway, i'm just ranting now.
