How old do i have to be to get contacts?!

There is more to it than just how old you are. I have actually fit contacts on kids as young as 6 and they have done well. I have also fit contact lenses on patients as old as 25 or more who they have done very poorly. Why? Because the 6 year old was highly motivated to wear them right and take care of them but the 25 year old was very immature and didn't take care of them. So motivation and personal responsibility are really the important things. I would say this may be more what your parents are talking about than your actual age. So, if you really want contact lenses I would say you need to start demonstrating your responsibility in taking care of other things in your life such as chores, keeping you room clean, following their instructions without talking back, etc, etc. After a year or so of proving you are responsible then they may be more likely to believe you can take care of contacts. Hope all goes well.
I'm pretty sure you can get contacts, but you need your parent's permission, and you need to be fitted for them by an eye doctor.
Contacts are easy in one respect, but require more care, than just glasses.
You definatly need a parent or guardian with you, if your parents dont feel you are old enough or mature enough for them, then its best to wait until you are.
I have seen kids as young as 10 get them in my office, and they either did VERY well, or REALLY bad...
Same thing with older people.. its all about maturity level and motivation.
And I guess this is just preference... but please do not go to WalMart to be fit into Contacts... avoid places where you can be fit for lenses, pick up a gallon of milk and a pair of underwear at the same time.. lol
Go to a reputable doctors office that knows what they are doing and do that all day... again, preference... but think about it!

You can be any age, really, and 12 is plenty old.
I knew a girl who got contacts in third grade. You are plenty responsible, im sure, and your eyes are ready.
Ask your eye doctor, and talk to your parents. You are old enough.
