For Contact Wearers?!

Question: I've heard before that if you wear your contacts flipped the wrong way it can cause alot of discomfort. Is this true? I wear contacts, and some days they're fine, other day they really bother me, is there any truth to this?

Yes. A contact that is inside out can be very uncomfortable due to the taper of the edges. You can do what some optometrists call the 'taco test'.
Place the contact on the fold in the palm of your hand below your little finger. When you close your little finger the fold should close the contact lens. if the contact lens folds up to itself like a taco shell, then it is the correct way.
If it folds down to your palm, then it may be inside out and needs to be inverted.
Remember, always wash your hand before handling you contact lenses or touching your eyes and never where your contacts longer then the time indicated on the directions as this could result in a painful eye infection or vision impairment that could be permanent in the worst case scenario.

ya it can scratch your eyes and hurts somtimes its blurry too

yes! your eye doctor should have went over this with you.....

You will be able to tell immediately if you put them in the wrong way. Look at the curve on your lense really close before you put them it to make sure it is rounded instead of slightly bowed.

If they are inside out, you will know it. It's very uncomfortable.

yes they are shaped concave so if you flip them wrong way you have a slight edge rubbing against your eyes.

If you put them in where it looks like a saucer not a bowl they are so annoyin. Its true theyre uncomfortable if you put them on inside out.

yes because the edge of the contact is flipped out and it rubs on your eyelids

yeah, you will know if they are inside out because they hurt. try rinsing them with saline and flipping them the opposite way.

yes its true u have to look at them at eye level to tell...if the have a little ridge to them its the wrong way

Yeah it is true. You can usually tell if it's in wrong because it's uncomfortable and feels scratchy against your eye ball and lid. Just flip it around and re-wet it when this happens:)

the eyes are very sensitive. and any little piece of dust or forign object can irritate them. i wear contacts, and i have done this before and it is very discomforting.

well when i wear it inside out it hurts so bad that i cant bare it so i have to take it out and reverse it. so i think you'll know if its flipped inside out or not cuz it hurts.

Yes, this is true. Before you put your contacts in make sure they are not flipped the wrong way. It will not look like a sphere the edges will be flipped the wrong way. I hope this make sense. Anytime your contacts are uncomfortable, something is wrong. They are either on the wrong way, there is something on it, or there is a tear.

this is true, but there are many reasons why you might feel discomfort and it might have nothing to do with the fact that your contact lenses are on backwards.
i actually had this problem just this morning. i threw away the contact lens and put in a new pair.
so you might feel discomfort because you've been wearing them longer then you should, the two weeks are up
or it might have something to do with the solution. make sure you wash your contact lenses very carefully before you put them on and after you take them off. don't wear it more than the ten hour period either.

Yes. I have gotten mine inside out and have definatly known it. They hurt, my eyes wouldn't stop watering and I couldn't see right.

Remember when you put your contacts in put it on the tip of your finger and inspect to make sure it's right side out. One good way to tell is gently pinch the sides together, if they roll inward they are the right way, if they don't flip it and try again!

Yes, it can cause great discomfort. Normally you can look at your contacts, like put it on your finger and hold it up to the light and look through it, and there are numbers or letters ABC or 123 on it. If they're backwards it's flipped the wrong way, and if it's right you're ready to go.

I have one contact that is specially made because I have a astigmatism and it don't have numbers on it, but it usually don't flip around cause it's weighted, but sometimes this contact causes discomfort, just because of the way my eye is shaped.

yes I get that problem. if I'm tired, etc. they sometimes hurt

Yes, maybe u wear it wrong side or the eyes might not be suitable for the lenses

yeah i did it once in my right eye this was because i was in a rush 4 skl. You need to make sure they are the shape of a hemisphere. You will be able to tell because they feel very uncomfortable.
