Trouble wearing my glasses?!

Question: I am near-sighted and my sight has gotten progressively worse over the last 5 years. I can see just fine close up, and far away I can see, just really blurry. I got my eye exam about 2 years ago and I was told I have astigmatism in both eyes. I got glasses.

This is the issue. I can wear them when I am sitting down, no problem. Actually pretty much I only wear them to watch a movie at a theater. If I am standing and moving around, my depth perception gets all messed up and I get dizzy. Going down stairs is especially difficult, I have to take my glasses off so I don't fall. I drive without them, because I have trouble with distances. But if I don't wear them, I can't see signs at all. I have trouble working with things up close like typing, papers, etc. I always find myself looking under my lenses to see up close and it gives me headaches looking back and forth. I try to force myself to look through my lenses only but then I'm consciously having to turn my head in weird directions.

if you wore them all the time.. you would adjust... of course your vision would probably continue to degrade also.

You might look into contact lenses. I have an astigmatism and I prefer contact to my glasses... though you may decide otherwise.

Find out if your glasses are plastic or acrylic. It sounds like your glasses are plastic. Acrylic glasses are "clearer" and have less distortion. Also get your eyes rechecked when you are relaxed and take the eye test slowly making sure you make the right decision when they ask you: "What looks better; this or this....." I am sure you know what I am talking about.

It is recommended that everyone get their eyes tested once a year. Get your eyes rechecked as it sounds like you need it, also take your old prescription or your glasses with you to compare. Tell the dr. what you are currently experiencing. Chances are you will find that your current rx has changed and once you start wearing your new glasses you will see a signifigant improvement.
