What does is it mean when one of your eyes twitches?!

Question: My eye has left eye has been doing this off and one for about 2 days. Just wondering if you heard any wives tales or medical info about why this happens.

There's a lot of it about: a Y!A search for "eye twitch" turns up 1,724 questions.

It is basically stress and fatigue, but the simple and right answer of "try to cultivate a more restful, relaxed, lifestyle" many people will regard as totally impractical!

Sometimes the tendency to acquire a twitch can be associated with marginally reduced potassium levels.
Try drinking fresh tomato juice, or eating bananas.

It's just a nerve 'firing'. Totally harmless and will disappear in its own time. No treatment available and none needed.

I've always wondered and wanted to know about the reason to this one as well....although i do have an old wives tale for u...

When i was a little girl my Muma used to tell me that if your left eye twitches/beats, its caz something good is going to happen to you. N if the right eye twitches/beats, its not good.....

I believed it then but not anymore :)

Lots of the time it's a harmless muscle spasm; my buddy had them and his doctor told him to drink tonic water because quinine is a very mild muscle relaxant. he started drinking like 3 small bottles a day and the twitches disappeared.

Sometimes it can be related to stress. If it lasts a week, see your eye doctor just to be sure it's not something else.

oh thats just your eye muscles contracting and straining. Its when youve had lack of sleep for a very long time or if youve been watching the monitor at your computer or watching tv for a looong period of time with out a break. Just close your eyes and rest for a few hours it will eventually go away. No wives tale.
