Sleeping in Acuvue 2 brand contact lenses?!

Question: With my specific brand of contact lenses I have read on 1800contacts.com that you can sleep in them for 6 days or wear them daily for about 2 weeks. When I first got them about 2 years ago, I only wore them daily. After reading you could wear them or 6 days at a time, I have done it a few times. However, when I take them off again my eyes get red and are rather dry. It's not only that, but whenever I first got them I never had problems with dry eyes, even now when I'm not wearing my contacts continuously I have problems with dry eyes.

Does anyone have any suggestions as how to take care of this AND is sleeping in them really bad for you if it was "made" for it?

I am starting to think that especially with me having dry eyes already, that it is bad and I should switch to the Acuvue Oasis ones.

I had the same problem as you and my eye doctor did switch me to Acuvue Oasis about 6 months ago and it is a big difference. I have had no problems. And like you I already have a dry eye problem plus I have allergies. I love the new contacts. I would highly recommend them. Also just because they say you can sleep in them does not mean you can. My eye doctor says that it is different with each individual.

Take care !

Any reaction to contact lenses can be caused by the materials the lens is made of and the solutions you use. If you have been fine with them wearing them daily but started having problems when you started sleeping in them then it is possibly just the prolonged exposure that is causing the problem.

Lenses that are designed specifically for prolonged wear will cause no harm by wearing them for prolonged periods (provided that it is within the guidelines) any reaction to the lenses should be discussed with your Ophthalmic Optician.

Having dry eyes with or without the lenses may mean you have a mild conjunctivitis and can be easily sorted. you just need to go and talk to your Optician.

Hello!
I've been wearing contact lenses of some form or other for about 25 years. My father was an optometrist so I can give you some very good advice.

First thing, check with a doctor or optometrist about your particular symptoms. I think that it's best that a professional take a look at your eyes and give you advice.

Having said that, I think that contact lens wearers usually do not blink enough. That's why they get dry eyes. You can use a drop or product to lubricate the eyes if your dr suggests it.

Sleeping in contacts depends on your particular problems. If you are suffering from dry eye syndrome, it's probably not a good idea to wear contacts at all. I always take mine out because sleeping in them not only dries out the eye, but causes strain on the blood vessels of the eye.

So my unprofessional advice is 1) don't sleep in them, 2) blink more, and 3) use a drop if you are having problems but first speak to a dr.

ciao!
