How to put contacts in?!

Question: Just yesterday I went to the glasses store to get my contact and the man showed me how to do it but after 30 min.s I could only get one in and one out. Now, today I am sick with probably a fever or bug and I am afraid about how to put them in. He had to get one contact in and out my eye.

My question is: How can I overcome my fear and what is the easiest way to put them in and out?

Thanks
Kami

Overcome your fear by knowing that eventually you will want this and that you really need to be stronger to do it.

Put your left hand on top eyelid
Put your right hand on bottom, pointer finger on the contact
Slightly put it on your eye

Remember that nothing really bad can happen.

I had a lot of trouble at first as well, but here I am, seven years later still using contacts.
My technique is as follows: first clean them, then for my right eye I place the contact on my right index finger. I pull down the lower lid of my right eye with my left hand. And then do the same for the top lid as I ease the contact onto the eye.
Ditto for the left. It takes some practice but you'll get the hang of it

Open your eye really wide (hold it if necessary) and tilt your head back. Place it against the eyeball, under your lids, until it feels comfortable. Keep your head tilted back and blink a few times to make sure they stay in place. Then do the other one. Remember, Practice Makes Perfect! As daunting as it is at first, you'll be a pro at it before long...

I have the same problem. Well, I used to. It just takes some time to get used to. Simply use one hand, the free hand, to lift the top of your eye lid and put the contact in. At first you'll blink alot but after a while you will get used to it. Trust me. And try not to be scared. You won't hurt yourself!

Good luck :)

ok so i just got my contacts like 2 years ago at first when i was at the eye doctor it took me like 1 hr to get them in but then i kept practicing and practicing pretty much by the 4th day i had them it took me 5 seconds to get them in. so what i do is i put one contact on my pointer finger then take my middle finger and pull down my eyelid then still the cotact into your eye. if it feels funny or you can feel it in your eye then its probably inside out so id take it out again "reverse way i told you" and make it the other way

When I got contacts for the first time, i was also scared of even touching my eye or putting my contacts in. It will be a long month before you really get the hang of it, or at least it did for me. Just think of other things while you look straight into the mirror. make sure your hands are clean and even have some contact solution on your finger so it comes off your finger easily. as you look forward do not think about what you are about to do. just make sure the contact is going in the right way and not inside out. If you don't get it right away, its o.k it takes practice. Just give yourself time in the morning to get them in. wake up a little earlier. good-luck..... best of wishes...

I feel your pain :-)

I had the same phobia about jamming my finger into my eyeball.

basically it all boils down to practice - just keep doing it over and over - put 'em in take 'em out.

the 1st time I did it by myself it took me a freakin' half hour to get one in, it kept sticking to my finger and it wouldn't stick to my eye - I was so frustrated - but the more times I did it the easier it became.

I clean my hands really well then I rinse the lens with the solution and put it on the tippy top of the index finger (rt for the rt eye an left for the left eye) then hold bottom lid down look up to get a good suction on the eye then blink a few times and the lens will float to the center.
good luck
I hope this helps

dont poke out your eye L@L !!

i get my bloke to do it im not scared to do it ir anything ive just got bad co ordination, my advise is see how do with someone else doing it and if not go back to the optitions xx

Don't worry Kami, you'll get used to it quickly! I was so squeamish about eyes and i do it every day no problem now. don't think about it too much, it's like taking a pill without drink, do it wen ur relaxed. i put it on the index finger of my hand, right hand for right eye, left for left. I find it helps to put it directly on the tip and put ur finger slowly on to ur eye wait till u feel it is in place, remove ur hand blink and repeat. it helps for them to be really clean, and for ur hand to be dry, otherwise they fold back out on to ur finger which makes it take longer and is more stressful. count to 3 and make urself do it on 3! make sure they're the right way round too. to get over your fear, try looking in the mirror and touching the white of ur eye with a clean hand, u'll be surprised to notice that this isn't even uncomfortable, there's nothing to be afraid of! and practice makes perfect, if it takes 15 mins to get them in now, it will take 5 next week. good luck x

I think you need a better optometrist! Mine spent a long time with me til I could do it without too much fuss. Took me ages to get the hang of it, but here's what I do:
1. wash hands
2. pick up contact on end of middle finger of left hand
3. transfer lens onto end of middle finger right hand by pinching it between thumb & middle finger
4. hold down lower lid with 4th finger right hand
5. hold up upper lid with index finger of left hand
6. put lens onto eyeball with right middle finger

If I get an air bubble, I move the lens side to side to get rid of it.

To take it out, I just pull down the lower lid, & pull the lens down & in towards my nose - it folds up and rolls out.

NB: I use daily disposables, if you have any other sort, this method may not be recommended.

If all else fails, there are lots of nice glasses around these days!

levitate them with your thoughts

I had the same problem when i first got my contatcs about 4 months ago. I went in and i got them both in and then when i had to take them out i got one out and the other one i had treid taking it out for literally a half hour but it wouldnt come out so the doctor had to take it out. The best thing to do is to not be afraid of the contact because its meant to be on your eyes and when your placing it on your eye your safe because its just the contact touching your eye.

To put them in lift up the top and bottom of your eye lid and look straight at yourself in a mirror and then just put the contact on the tip of your finger and place it on your eye. If you feel like it has to be more centered on your pupil look at your finger and it will center itself. If it feels uncomfortable you have to take it out and put it in again, or else it could tear and that feels very uncomfortable.

To take them out, use your thumb and pointer finger to grab it off your eye. again dont be afraid to touch your eye because its just the contact your touching so you dont even feel it. If its not out keep trying and eventually it will budge. When your done put them in clean solution and your done!
good luck!
