Please help me get over my fear of contacts?!

Question: Currently I wear glasses; I have for about 4-5 years.
Well, I really want to get contacts, and my parents[who both wear contacts], support it.
HOWEVER, I am dreadfully afraid of putting anything near my eyes. But I seriously want to get over it, but it's just complicated.
Last year I did attempt to get contacts, but, uh, there was some "conflict" due to my phobia of something touching my eye. Which resulted in me hitting the doctor... :[
Uh, besides that, what are some ways for me to get over this fear? I really, really, REALLY want contacts, but it seems impossible!
I already know you need to have proper hygiene so you don't get infections, and I know the routine[I've been observing my parents do their contacts]...
And I want to get contacts before next school year, so probably during Spring Break or Summer Break is when I want to get contacts.
So if you have any tips and stuff, ANYTHING, that would be extremely helpful!

I used to be like that too, now I'm still kicking myself for being such a wussy. How I got over it was thinking "I'm not touching my eye, I'm just touching the contact lens." I learned how to quickly get the lens out, years later I can actually touch my eye without the lens in! Take your time, Its just the lens! I almost hit my doctor too then he wanted to examine my eyelid by trying to turn it inside out! I don't think so!
Good luck.

trysome sample ones on at the store to see how it feels. and remember to take them off before you sleep. just practice taking them on or off.

I'm almost 30 and I have been wearing contact lenses since I was 11 years old. Unlike you, though, I had no problem putting my finger in my eye. I think you need to be used to putting your finger in your eye or you won't be able to wear contact lenses at all. If and/or when you are able to finally wear contact lenses, I suggest getting the disposable kind...I wear the ones you wear for a month at a time. That way you don't have to clean them, just put them in solution at night.

I wear contacts and it was awfully hard for me at the start too. It's basically nothing to worry about. The first time they put the contacts on your eyes feel slightly irritated and itchy- but otherwise it does no harm to your eyes whatsoever. As long as you tell yourself this you won't have anything to be afraid of. If i can do it so can you! There's nothing impossible about wearing contacts- ask your optician to go into detail about the method of wearing contacts and how to care for them- this will make you feel confident and secure.

I wear contacts. All I can give you is a reassurance that it doesn't hurt. I don't even feel them. Do you wear mascara? If you can apply mascara, then you can deal with contacts.

glaasses are good for you then

I've had contacts for a few years now & it was hard at first. Maybe you should try touching your eye with just your finger and just getting used to doing that. I think doing this everyday may help you get over your phobia. I still dont like foreign things touching my eyeballs but I'm used to contacts.

the best contacts i've ever had are acuvue oyasis with hyrda clear plus!!!!!!! omg its think and comfortable that you dont notice they are they. awesome =]

Grow up and gain some maturity first. Contact lenses are for individuals that respect both their eyes and those people (doctors) that are helping the individual to better themselves. Contacts are far from ideal for phobic children who are still lashing out at the world.

(You DON'T hit other human beings, particularly doctors or other professionals trying to help you... Well, mature people don't hit doctors or people trying to help them, I should say...)

Basically, you will need to practice touching your eyeball (make sure your hands are VERY clean) until you feel comfortable doing it. There are also tools out there to help you; contact lens inserters/removers.

Here's an example of one of those: http://www.aclens.com/da.asp?ID=51

Those are quite helpful if sticking your finger in your eye bothers you. They are really cheap, so it's worth a shot if you think it would help you out.
