Why is my sight sometimes blurry?!

Question: I have had my eyes tested and they are ok - the optician said my long distance sight is not perfect and I could get get glasses if I wanted to, but it would only really be worth it if I drive long distances, which i dont often do. But sometimes road signs and things blur when I'm tired and I cant read them, and I find it quite hard to drive in the dark, I often cant really see far into the distance, so I usually avoid driving much now. Do I just need glasses or is there something else wrong? And is there any way of improving night vision?

I pretty much agree with Vadim S. I have always had a problem seeing at night or even when lights go from light to dark quickly. My doctor said is the astigmatism, He compared it to be like the shutter on the lens of a camera. It does have to do with the shape of your eye and the lens does not adjust as quickly as a normal shaped eye.

If you do have astigmatism and slight distance vision problems, you would definitely need glasses to correct this problem. The more you has to strain to see, the blurrier it will get and it also overworks the brain which can (an in my case) causes headaches if I do not wear my glasses to drive. The rain (even in day light) also hinders my vision and the older you get the worse it gets. It does go bad as quickly if you would wear "corrective lens."

I really do not understand the reason you doctor did not advise you to get glasses. Mine told me the same thing, except he explained it more thoroughly and said if I did not get them then, it would not be long before I would have to and my eyes would weaken quicker without the help of glasses when I drive and now even watch TV. I have mild bi-locals but I can read without them until around the end of the day and my eyes begin to get tired. "our Shutters Just do Not work Fast Enough to accommodate the changes in the lighting.

it could be just the weather changing...

I have the same problem with night vision. I don't know about you, but for me it's caused by abnormally large pupils. Basically, my eyes let in too much light at night, and it causes blurry vision. There is nothing I can do about it. I can't avoid driving so I am just more conscious and careful at night. Like I said, I don't know if that is the same for you, but I wouldn't avoid driving altogether.

its likely a mix between large pupils and mild nearsightedness which appears worse at night since there is not as much light available. Vision is also not constant, you'll usually find if your tired or just spent a long time reading that your distance vision will be worse.

Glasses will definently help even if they are just for driving at night.

you also might want to look into taking some extra vitamin A is if your lacking in this your night vision can be pretty noticably affected

around this time of year, i recommend taking cod liver oil (its basically a souped up version of fish oil that also has a bunch of vitamin A and D along with all your Omega 3 acids)

good luck!
