Hi Donna,

Corrective lenses are usually the first step in treatment for astigmatism at age 19 because they can counteract the shape of the cornea that is causing the astigmatism.

As with me, as years passed, lenses did not correct my astigmatism as well as my vision became worse. I then became a candidate for laser eye surgery which is one of today's most common procedures for treatment to correct the shape of the cornea.

There are different choices available, a consultation with an ophthalogomist will be able to help you decide when it will be best for you.

My results were fantastic, good luck to you!

I also was nearsighted and had a mild astigmatism and had LASIK done. I am very happy with the results. I would do it all over again if I had to.

I am 27 and my opthalmologist said mid to late 20's is the perfect time to have it done. Your eyes aren't really completely adjusted until that point. Chances are if you had it now, you may have to have it again in the future because of the adjustment. No matter your decision, I hope your outcome is as good as mine.
