Vision problems in right eye?!

Question: For the past couple of months I have been having strange things happening with my right eye. The first thing I noticed was what seemed like a film out of my peripheral vision. That went away. I now have blurred vision at close range in that eye, which was never a problem before. Sometimes something that is white will have a greenish tint to it. If I move my eyes while in the dark I will get a bright flash that seems to come from the upper right area of the eye. And, strangest of all, after I take a shower, my vision is so blurred and strange in the eye that I can barely see out of it. It clears up after I've been out of the shower for a while. Any ideas on this one? And yes, I'll go see a doctor when I get the $.

You didn't mention how old you are, that can be a clue. Your symptoms aren't consistant with any one particular problem, but they are all suggestive that you have something that could be serious. Here's what I would ask you:

1) How old are you? Your near vision changes alot in the 40's. Also, the older we are, the greater potential for macular problems. That could explain the problem with th near, but not the distance vision.

2) Does the film in your peripheral vision move or change? If it does, that's a good thing, if it is fixed, then that's a concern.

If you are very near sighted, you are at increased risk for retinal problems.

There are a few things that are really an emergency when it comes to your eyes. Flashing lights, shadows or a film that doesn't go away, or sudden blurred vision are a few of them. If you can't afford to see an ophthalmologist, (which is covered by health insurance) go to the emergency room. Better safe than sorry.
