I'm having serious eye problems. just went to the eye doctor!?!

Question: I'm 17 years old, I just went to the eye doctor a few weeks ago, and they found minor astigmatism in my left eye, and gave me really minor prescription glasses. everything was fine after that.

two nights ago, I had a serious panic attack from stress--I was dizzy for hours and needed to be in a dark room for the rest of the night. when i woke up yesterday, everything was blurry. It even seems like the glasses make long distance vision WORSE! I have no problem reading up close, but seeing anything from about 10 feet or further is almost impossible!

I don't understand how this could have happened overnight, and the panic attack may be completely irrelavent, but it's all so weird. I haven't worn the glasses since yesterday. I was hoping that when I woke up today it would be gone but it wasn't!

I should also mention that I am diabetic, because that can affect vision over time but my blood sugars are good, and nothing like that should happen overnight like it did! help please!

Impossible to know, without examining the eyes, and especially to eliminate any diabettic connection, but the most likely cause is muscle cramp: ciliary spasm associated with the panic attack.

If it is, simple relaxation exercises for the eyes should make a difference quite quickly.
find a distant object that is vertical: telegraph pole, church spire... Hold a pencil vertically at arm's length and bring it in line with the distant object. If you're using two eyes, you will now either be seeing two pencils or two poles. If that's not easy concentrate on one, and the *other* should be double. The one that's double will also be a bit blurred.

Now, jump attention from one object to the other. The one you're concentrating should become single and clearer, the other double and blurred.
Repeat for a dozen swaps, ending up on the *distant* object.
See if that's helped.
If it has, more tuition on different eye exercises may be of benefit.
