Which brand of contact lens can i buy with this prescription?!

Question: I have astigmatism, okay so my prescription is :
OD
Sphere: -2.75
cylindar: -1.75
BC: 8.6
axis: x 160
OAD: 14.5

OS
Sphere: -2.75
cylindar: -2.75
BC: 8.6
axis: x 170
OAD: 14.5

My doctor told me to get D3 durasoft toric contact lenses that are made to order and are extended wear(wear for a year). they are very expensive, they cost me 258$ for 1 pairs after insurance had pay for some of it already. I looked online and i can get two for around 200$ which is cheaper, but I was just wonder if i had to get this brand, or of there are others out there? i asked my doctor and he didn't really tell me much.

The correction for my eyes are not that bad its just the shape of my eye that is making my contacts cost so much!! My left eye is the reason i have to get these made to order right (-2.75 for cylinder)? is there anyway i can get the made to order for my left eye and a different type (cheaper) for my right eye?

Thanks =)

You cannot just arbitrarily switch the kind of contact lenses you are wearing. Not every contact lens comes in the same parimeters. There are many different kinds of materials, there are many different base curves and many different diameters and in the case of torics, many different axes. And they don't make lenses in EVERY available base curve and size.

You have a pretty sizeable amount of astigmatism (the cylindirical power) which will limit you because it will almost always be a special order or made-to-order lens. The thing is, if all you've ever worn is the brand that he wrote down (the D3 Torics) he really cannot give you an alternate brand because you haven't been fitted with anything else. You could ask about trying a disposable lens if there is a brand that makes them in your prescription. Disposable lenses usually have free trial lenses for diagnostic and fitting purposes. You could make an appointment, get fitted with a disposable trial, and once he sees you back with them on after wearing them for a week and the prescription and fit are satisfactory, you can request a written prescription to take with you to have filled elsewhere, either online or at another eye doctor's office. But, until your doctor has actually ordered lenses for you of another type and until he's SEEN the lenses on you, you are going to be limited to what your doctor has you wearing right now. And any place that you try to order contacts through is going to require that you provide them with your eye doctor's name, phone number, and fax number so that they can verify that what you're ordering is what you've been approved to wear and if they cannot verify this information, they will not fill your order. And rest assured, if you do happen to fill your own prescription with some other type of lens, you'll be sorry.

I have toric in one eye, but can't you get the kind that you throw away every 2 weeks? Mine are $66 for 6 PAIR.Mine is Acuvue2 brand. I'm in the USA.

It's the Cylindar that makes the lens expensive. Both your eyes have a cylindar ... it doesn't matter how bad it is it'll still make the lens more expensive (sorry to say) I would investigate the brand that you saw on the net and get other people's opinions on that brand ... never trust what the company says cause they will tell you their lens is the best. There are so so many different brands of lenses and even disposable ones which last a month or so. even longer if you wear your glasses a few days a week. Disposable are WAY more comfortable too and I am sure your insurance will assist each time you buy a new pair. I'd try Johnson and Johnson Acuvue2 lenses .. they are disposable.

-PS your optom should really give you more than one option. If he doesn't try go chat to another one... I'm sure they will not charge you for advice ... just take in your script.

U shd try the soflen Toric or purevision toric. it offer the best image for people with astima
