Eye Doctor said my expectations are unrealistic! Are they really??!

Question: I went to the eye doctor about a week ago for contact lenses. I have an asigmatism and tried on toric contact lenses. I was able to see "okay" but I told the doctor that my vision was not as clear as it is with eyeglasses.

The doctor told me "your expectations are a bit unrealistic" you will never be able to see perfectly clear with toric lenses like you can with eyeglasses.

Is this true that you cannot see as clearly with toric contacts as you can with eyeglasses??

Obviously I am not an eye doctor but I had a hard time believing this is true and I was a bit shocked when he told me my expectations were unrealistic.

The main problem comes from the fact that astigmatism has a 'direction' to it- it is oriented from 0 to 180 degrees (called the 'axis' on your prescription)... In eyeglasses, this direction can be set very specifically and accurately, and it stays put. In a contact lens, it will rotate a bit with every blink. Also, toric contact lenses are usually only made in at least 10 degree increments. So if you need a 15 deg axis, for example, they can only order 10 or 20... depending on the magnitude of your astigmatism, this can blur you a little more than you'd like. For these reasons, toric lenses are almost never as perfect as specs, but they can be 'okay' to 'pretty good'. If you are a very visually specific person, you may be better off staying in specs :)

That is true for some people with toric contact Rx's In all likelyhood this is because of the Rx itself- whitch cant be changed for the better. Could be because the contacts move to much, causing the Cylinder Axis to be off more than it is on.
