Can I wear monthly contacts a week longer?!

Question: I am on my last pair of contacts. I ordered some but they wont be here for a week or two. I have been wearing the ones I have now for about a month, they are monthly contacts. So is it ok to wear them until my new ones get here? I don't want to get an infection. Would I get one that soon?

As long as you take the lenses out at night, and they aren't irritating your eyes, you should be OK. You can try asking your doctor for another trial pair to hold you over. I hate to recommend doing that because that means that everyone assumes that the trials we carry in the office are intended to be "hold you over" lenses, when in fact, they are diagnostic and fitting purposes. We wind up giving them out to everyone to "hold them over" and then when we have patient we need to fit with them, we never have the lenses in stock and we have to make them wait so we can order them.

So call them if your lenses become uncomfortable and see if they have something they could give you. Or better yet; just wear your glasses until they come in. You should be giving your eyes a break every now and then anyway. It would do them good to not have lenses in for a few days. Next time though...don't wait until the last minute to order your lenses.

it will be okay. mine are monthly too. and i usually don't remember to change them for 2-3 months. and i've had no problems.

In most cases you should be fine. Otherwise ask your Eye Doctor for a trial pair of lenses to hold you over until the new ones come in . Most doctor offices have trial lenses right in their office. Call your doctor ask for sure. He or She may ok another few days of wear. Better to be safe than sorry ! We all only get ONE set of eyes ... Good Luck ..

Make sure you change them often, and don't wear them for extended periods of time (sleeping, napping, 12 hours a day). My eye doctor has taken my off of wearing my contacts for an extended period of time due to my contact suffocating my eyes. Trust me, you do NOT want to go through this. Your eyes will go beat red, get very sore and irritated. If this is left untreated, it can lead to blindness. I wish someone informed me of this when I first started wearing contacts. Eventually I will be able to go back to wearing contacts, but they will be a special perscription to ensure my cornea is getting enough oxygen. I don't think I will ever go back to wearing my contacts as much as I used to. Just an FYI, so becareful.

it's OK I wear monthly ones to and I always forget to change them. As long as they feel OK in your eye than keep wearing them!

my partner wears monthly contacts and is always forgetting to change them when he remembers that he should of changed them he then reorders and has to wait for them to arrive which can take up to 3 weeks if this happens then he will only wear them while at work but not for running around the house or even going out just until the new ones arrive

I do it every once in a while. I am not sure how long it would take to get an infection but I guess you should be ok as long as you clean them. Hope this helps!
