Do the Freshlook eye contacts expire?!

Question: I just found a pair of freshlook colorblends eye contacts while cleaning up my room. They've been closed for the last 9 months or so...do they expire??? or can I use them normally?

Yes they do expire. If they are still in their original package you should be able to find an expiration date. Usually it takes a few years before the expiration date is reached but you should make sure before you put anything in your eye that might be expired. Also, make sure that the prescription still matches what your last eye examination and contact lens fitting. If they have been lost for awhile and your prescription has changed I would advise against wearing them (even if they are not expired). Eyes are very complicated organs and I would not risk effecting them in anyway.

If it turns out that they match your current prescription and they are not expired here are some helpful hints on maintaining contact lenses.

1. Probably the single most important task to do before handling contact lenses is to properly wash and rinse your hands. Hands are used to handle many different objects through out the course of a day; therefore they are incredibly susceptible to debris and germs. If your hands have debris or germs they could contaminate your lenses or worse yet your eyes. It is important to also rinse your hands after washing them in order to avoid any soap residue from rubbing off on to your contact lenses.
2. It is important to use the appropriate solution when rinsing your contact lenses. Follow the instructions carefully while cleaning and rinsing your lenses, some solutions require different steps.
3. When you are done using your contact lenses it is important to make sure that your contact lens case/container is free of any debris. Fill the case with the recommended disinfectant solution in order to kill any microorganisms that could be on your lenses. By following this last step you could avoid any risk of eye infection.

Hopefully this posting helps.

You should be able to wear them if and only if there is not any film on the lenses. If there is and you feel unsure, do not wear them.

Have they been closed in the original package or in your contact lens container. if it is your own then i would not wear them. When i talked to my eye doctor about how i never wear my lenses they said that i should take them out and clean them weekly at least to keep them usable, because otherwise bacteria can build up. and also the solution could evaporate from the case and parts of the lens could have dried out by now. I wouldn't risk it. they are not expensive on sites like 1800contacts.com, you'd do better just to get some new ones and not risk your eyes.

The packages they come in do have an expiration date on them. If you want to wear them, I would definitely take them out of the case, clean the case well, refill it with some fresh contact solution, and let them soak overnight. You may also want to rub them gently, in case anything has stuck to them when they were in the contact case.

It would probably also be a good idea to double check with your doctor, to see whether or not they are safe to wear.
