You may have misunderstood, there's a test where the Doctor will put numbing drops in your eye to check for the Intra Ocular Pressure of your eye.
After the drops have been administered an instrument will be pressed softly against the front of your cornea to find out the pressure he's looking for. it's usually a way to pick up on early signs of Glaucoma.
"Will this hurt?"
it'll feel just like any other normal drops, they won't hurt, just open your eyes wide enough so the Optometrist/Ophthalmologist won't have such a hard time.
