Eye contacts...?!

Question: My 12 year old sister has been begging my parents to get eye contacts! They think shes too young. I was wondering about them myself. How old do you have to be? How much do they cost? Yearly? How much about? I want ones that are coloured (grey) and prescription at the same time. I want the cheapest ones. Also, how much would solution cost? How old do you have to be? How do you get them? How do you find out your prescription? At the doctors? If so, do you have to pay for some contacts there? Can I buy some online or should I at the doctors? Thanks...

I was told at that age that you have to wait until your eyes have finished growing, and I didn't get mine until I was 18, but that was a long time ago and it could have changed. Ask your local optician, he/she will know! Daily lenses are pretty costly. Monthlies are cheaper, but then you need the solution to store them in overnight and lubricate them with. Once again, the optician will have chapter and verse on exact cost.

Mine are monthly hydrophilic (soft) and they cost about $30 a month (Australian), but the solution costs another $30 - mine is more expensive than some because I am allergic to the preservatives and have to get a preservative-free solution.

You also have to look after the lenses and make sure they are kept very clean - believe me, you don't want to get an eye infection from dirty lenses so you need to be very disciplined about cleanliness.

there's no "age" you have to be. you HAVE to go to an eye doctor.. you can't just get contacts. they have to give you an exam for them. cost ranges on where you look, they really aren't too bad.. it also depends on the kind you get which is part decided at first by your eye doctor. acuvue has colored contacts that are often available at the eye doctor. solution is just a few dollars at grocery stores. for your first contacts, it all goes through at the eye doctors. after that it is possible to order online, but i wouldn't recommend it for awhile.

you need to see a doctor, there isnt a certain age, you just have to be reasponsible enough to handlie it, u can get colored contacts, im 12 and i have them, they are awesome, you definitely need t see a doctor
